Sitcum Waterway E-mail

Sitcum WaterwayTetra Tech INCA provided the land and hydrographic surveying and mapping for the Sitcum Waterway Remediation. The $18 million contract involved cleanup and dredging within the Port of Tacoma’s Commencement Bay. Over 428,000 cubic yards of sediment within the Sitcum Waterway, and 2.5 million cubic yards within the Blair Waterway were dredged. Much of this material was used to fill the Milwaukee Waterway, creating up to 24 acres of marine container terminal space and 21 acres of marine habitat.

INCA established baselines for use by the contractor during dredging, performed pre- and post-dredge hydrographic mapping within the Sitcum and Blair Waterways, surveyed over-bank sections, and performed under-pier mapping using sonar technology. Hydrographic mapping was accomplished using INCA’s fully integrated digital hydrographic survey system, capable of providing real-time positioning and depths and on-board plotting. Under-pier mapping employed sonar technology to provide detailed electronic mapping of the pilings and sediment beneath the congested pier aprons. Periodic post-dredge measurements were provided to determine quantities as the work progressed.
