Tetra Tech INCA provided survey and mapping services for this $220 million freeway and HOV expansion project in Everett. The project involved creating 6 miles of new northbound HOV lanes, 4.6 miles of new southbound HOV lanes, 1 mile of new freeway lanes, and a new right-hand exit to Broadway Avenue; converting the left-hand Broadway exit into an HOV-only exit; widening and retrofitting 21 bridges; improving on- and off-ramps; and creating environmentally friendly drainage for more than 280 acres. The work represented the first significant widening of the I-5 freeway through Everett since 1969. This project is unique in that the design of the project is coincidental to the construction activities. This gave survey a chance to excel in regards to pre-construction calculations and quality assurance. INCA provided later stage design support survey which included work performed at night with lane closures or other forms of traffic protection.
