Rio Puerto Nuevo Channel Walls E-mail

Rio Puerto Nuevo Channel WallsTetra Tech INCA was selected to develop and evaluate erosion prevention systems that are technically and economically acceptable for a 6,000-foot long reach of channel of the Rio Puerto Nuevo flood control project. The criteria for this reach included the requirements for very smooth channel surfaces, quality assurance without the ability of visual inspection, and construction without dewatering since the channel is below sea level. The INCA design team included design engineers in the fields of structural, hydraulic and geotechnical engineering, and representatives from several construction contractors. The precast concrete panel system was recommended to the district and approved for further design development.

INCA designed the selected wall system and utility relocations for systems affected by its construction. These improvements included nearly 12,000-linear feet of diaphragm retaining wall with an average exposed face of 26 feet; approximately 1.03-million square feet of invert paving; and relocation of municipal and franchise utilities. INCA designed replacement river crossings for potable water and sanitary sewer transmission mains.
